Mark Bear became interested in
the game of pool while attending college. It quenched his
competitive drive and was a natural, yet safer, replacement for his
love of racing four wheeled motocross. It was during those racing
years that Mark learned his way around a machine shop. That machine
shop knowledge, coupled with an art background throughout high
school and college, and his love for the functional art of cues
began to grow rapidly. The ambition to make and repair cues was
fueled further by the progression of his pool game. Mark then began
purchasing the materials and equipment to make this goal possible.
In 1994 he made his first cue and over the course of that year,
slowly improved upon its design. After that year, confident with
the design and performance of his cues, he began showing them
locally and regionally to players. Bear Cues was born. Over the
years Mark has constantly improved upon his designs and construction
techniques with the latest being what he calls the “Modern Day Full
Splice”. This is based on the tried and true Brunswick Titlist
design. Mark Bear Custom Cues is truly a one man shop where
everything is made in house, with the exception of the tips, bumpers
and some screws. Every cue is one of a kind and truly hand made.
